At the present time, I am preparing
to wrap up work on my third Xbox-related tennis guide: Virtua Tennis
3.
The third installment of the Virtua Tennis series was
released on March 20th in the United States, and I anticipate having
this FAQ & Strategy Guide completed by mid-June. |

Season 3 Summary and Objectives:
DLet me begin by saying that it is possible to achieve the #1 ranking during this season, however, it will be next to impossible for just about everyone. To earn the #1 ranking, you will need to win two grand slams (i.e. Wimbledon and the U.S. Open) and the King of Players tournament. Winning these events in Season 3 is unlikely because:
1) You will spend more time playing tournaments as opposed to training. If you do find success at the level 100 tournaments, you will most likely be ill prepared for the Grand Slams due to insufficient skill sets. In order to be competitive in the grand slams, you should be at least level 18 (preferably 20) for your groundstrokes, level 11 for volleys, level 12 or higher for footwork, and level 20 or higher for your serve.
2) Vacations will be required following
each Grand Slam, which will cut into your training time substantially - especially
after the U.S. Open. You will need a full three weeks off after the U.S.
Open, and allow for a Home Rest before the KoP tournament. If you are
finding level 100 or grand slam tournaments difficult, the KoP will be out of
reach for you. The level of difficulty in the KoP far exceeds any other
matchup with exception to playing King or Duke in the SPT Finals.
There
is no reason to try and recommend that you push for #1 this season because it
will be impossible for 99% of those reading this. You will waste a lot
of time powering-off and rebooting when tournaments don't go your way, and there
is no guarantee that you will pass every training session as well. I'd
rather have you prepare your custom player for SUCCESS than placing you in a
situation where you'll be cursing and tempted to throw your controller through
the TV.
As always, make sure
you check your gear every time new sportswear or equipment is given to you.
You should also start to receive bonus equipment for certain milestones
in your gameplay. Pay close attention to the rest schedule I've outlined
below. There are many times that your player will be pushed to his limit.
This schedule
assumes that all training goals will be successfully accomplished. Always
train at the highest level available!

Be VERY CAREFUL when following my steps for the next few weeks. ONLY follow these instructions if you feel you can win the LA Indoor Tournament in less than 14 minutes (total time for both rounds). If you don't feel you can do that, then you must take a Home Rest (2 consecutive weeks) before the event. |
