At the present time, I am preparing to wrap up work on my third Xbox-related tennis guide: Virtua Tennis 3.  The third installment of the Virtua Tennis series was released on March 20th in the United States, and I anticipate having this FAQ & Strategy Guide completed by mid-June.

Between now and June 15, you will find periodic updates to the format and overall read-ability of this FAQ and Strategy Guide.  Much like my two previous Top Spin guides, this too will be a work-in-progress for several weeks before it finally showcases a more refined format.  The final copy of this FAQ & Strategy Guide is scheduled to be posted on or around June 30 (which is reasonably consistent with the timeline for my previous two Top Spin guides).

Season 4 Summary and Objectives:

This is it; this is the year you will become #1.  Your focus should be on training and rest on any day other than Grand Slam events.  Because you are on the verge of becoming #1 this early in the World Mode, VT3's programming requires you to successfully win all four Grand Slams to qualify for KoP Tournament.  It is a waste of time to participate in any tournament other than the Grand Slams - as the ranking point rewards will be negligible, and you will need every bit of training possible in order to succeed in the KoP event.

The Australian Open might be a challenge depending on what your draw looks like, but your training that follows should improve your player tremendously where each subsequent Grand Slam becomes easier and easier.  Case in point: my Wimbledon final was against Nalbandian.  It took me approximately seven and a half minutes to beat him.  When we faced each other again in the U.S. Open final, I beat him in three and a half minutes.  This was the direct result of my continued training in areas I felt I needed to strengthen.

This season, you may unlock Level 6 of various training exercises.  While it's not an absolute necessity to attempt Level 6, it is to your player's benefit, especially as his skill levels reach into the 20s.  That being said, it's best that you select the highest level that you know you can succeed at.  It's a waste of time if you try a difficulty level and repeatedly fail.  As stated before, the schedule outline below assumes complete success at everything listed.

Good luck!

 King of Players

This is it!  You win here, you will become #1.  Fortunately, this season's KoP challenger is Taylor Dent.  Check out the strategy I came up with on the Main Page under Section E.  It will help you considerably.

That being said, the cheesy A.I. in KoPs get kicked up a notch, so be prepared for a fight.   In this particular match, Dent changes up his strategy a bit for the KoP Final, but will react consistently when you slice his serve down the line from the ad-court.   You should always be able to win ad-court points when he is serving.   I should also mention that if you have Dent on the run, be aware of how he hits the ball when on the run:  if Taylor is going to barely reach the ball, he will always hit down the line.  If he gets to the ball early while on the run, he will almost always hit cross-court.  It is important to notice this, especially if you like to attack the net.  Good luck!

- Single Match, Final Round:  1 point
Aside from becoming the #1 ranked player, you will also be awarded with King/Duke's classic wooden racquet if you win this match..

END OF SEASON 4

Total Time:
1hr 50min - 2hr 30min.

Prior to the KoP final, your stats should be at or very close to the following ranges:

Serve:
Speed 23
Control: 25
Footwork:
Rush the net 14
Lateral movement: 14
Turning: 17
Groundstrokes:
Left/Right power: 25
Left/Right: 24
Left/Right: 21-22
Volley:
Left/Right power: 12
Left/Right angle: 12
Left/Right control: 12

With regard to clothing and equipment, you should have close to the following:

26 shirts
15 shorts
14 shoes
22 racquets
12 wristbands
1 accessory

To obtain more items, successfully complete all the tournaments you've skipped in previous seasons, accept practice sessions which lead to player challenges (e.g. Hewitt and the Pin Crusher), and successfully complete Academy events.  You can also win accessories and equipment by achieving certain milestones such as playing 10 hours with a custom character, hitting 10 lob winners or 50 max serves,  etc.

As a final note, continue your training during weeks that don't have any events planned, or, during tournaments that you've already beaten.  In Season 5, you will face off with your doubles partner against King and Duke.  More on this can be found on the Main Page.
